Margaret Cruikshank is an independent scholar who taught women’s studies and LGBT studies at the University of Maine. She is the author of Learning to be Old: gender, culture and Aging, 3rd ed. 2013, Rowman and Littlefield. She is currently a faculty associate at the University of Maine Center on Aging and an external member of the Centre for Women, Ageing, and Media, University of Gloucestershire.
When I created my anthology of literature on aging, I chose a diverse group of writers, past and present. Students in my ESL classes contributed stories about aging in their countries, including folk tales they had heard growing up.
